About the Event

Wangaratta District Specialist School presents a whole school production of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.

Based on the book by Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are is the story of Max, a boy who struggles to find his place in the world. Max just doesn’t fit in. The trouble seemed to start after he was given the wolf suit. While Max thinks it is the best birthday present he has ever received, his family is not so sure. Whenever he puts on the suit, disaster seems to strike.

To escape the tension at home, Max embarks on a journey, sailing through night and day searching for the place where he belongs. Along the way Max encounters many creatures of one kind or another before arriving at the place where the Wild Things are.

Using his special magic trick, Max tames the Wild Things and they crown him King, King of all Wild Things. For a while Max believes he has found the place where he belongs, with the Wild Things, but as time passes he realises this is not for him.  He becomes sad and lonely and yearns for home, to return to where he is loved best of all.
